Net Zero Carbon Cities Cork initiative

The Irish Examiner in collaboration with Accenture hosted a live discussion in the River Lee Hotel, Cork City on Tuesday 21st February to officially launch the outcomes of their work to date on the Net Zero Carbon Cities Cork initiative. This initiative is driven by the World Economic Forum collaborating with Accenture and aims to accelerate progress towards Net Zero in key cities around the world and Cork has been chosen as a pilot.

Irish Examiner Munster Business Hub Editor and host Alan Healy was joined by panellists Chief Executive of Cork City Council, Ann Doherty,  Chief Executive of ESB, Paddy Hayes, Associate Professor in Environmental Engineering & Future Sustainability at University College Cork, Dr. Marguerite Nyhan and Managing Director and Strategy Lead at Accenture in Ireland, Karen O’ Regan. There was a lively discussion around the work that has taken place so far, the further steps the city must take to overcome complex challenges, and how working collaboratively offers the best chance of success.

Mikie Sheehan Managing Director of the Irish Examiner said: There was deep engagement and interest in the topics from the audience which was made up of key members from public & private sector organisations from Cork City who asked insightful and thought-provoking questions. The Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Damian Boylan was also in attendance. A sustainability officer was present at the event who monitored the carbon footprint to aid us in achieving a carbon neutral activation.

Sustainability Season aims to bring practical, accessible and informative content on simple steps we can all take to protect the environment and progress Sustainability in our homes, communities, businesses and farmlands.

Irish Examiner’s Six Nations Live Show in partnership with Skechers

This event follows on from the Irish Examiner’s Six Nations Live Show in partnership with Skechers which was held on February 10th at the Metropole Hotel, Cork. Broadcaster Donal Lenihan hosted an evening of discussion and debate with La Rochelle Head Coach and Irish Examiner writer Ronan O’Gara, and ex Racing 92 coach and current Munster Rugby attack coach Mike Prendergast. In more rugby news, the Irish Examiner is exclusively live-streaming the Munster Schools Senior Cup semi-finals in association with Pinergy. The March 14th final at Musgrave Park will be available to watch as a free live stream at irishexaminer.com/schoolsrugby

International Women’s Day Breakfast in association with PepsiCo

The Irish Examiner hosted an International Women’s Day Breakfast in association with PepsiCo on March 8th.  The panel included social entrepreneur and author Deborah Somorin, fashion editor and Parkinson’s advocate, Annmarie O’Connor, and comedian and columnist Julie Jay, as they joined Irish Examiner Life/Style Editor and host Esther McCarthy, in making a call to action to raise awareness, celebrate women’s achievement and drive gender parity.
