John Battle

John Battle is a leading media lawyer in the UK and Head of Compliance at ITN, which produces television news and current affairs programmes for ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. He has been involved in many UK media law developments such as cameras in court, disclosure of prosecution evidence to the media and greater access to sports footage to news organisations.

Dearbhail McDonald

Dearbhail McDonald is Group Business Editor and former Legal Affairs Editor with Independent News & Media. Dearbhail will discuss the challenges currently facing the media in obtaining public court documents.

Olivia O’Kane

Olivia O’Kane is a Partner and Solicitor Advocate working with Carson McDowell LLP in Belfast. She regularly represents media organisations providing legal advice on defamation, privacy, data protection, contempt reporting restrictions, copyright and a wide variety of media related legal issues. She contributes to debates on issues of media responsibility and lectures at Queens University, Belfast. She is a founding member of the NIELG, which has been instrumental in changing court reporting in Northern Ireland.
