The shortlist for the NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards 2016 has been announced. This year over 1200 entries were made into the competition, the highest number to date. The much anticipated awards ceremony will take place in Dublin’s Mansion House on November 3rd.
Chairman of NewsBrands Ireland, Vincent Crowley commented: “The NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards honour the people and the newspapers who follow stories, uncover injustices, make the news interesting and importantly, create an archive of our times. The awards are always hotly contested and this year will be no different. The judging panel has had a difficult job to reduce the number of entries to the current shortlist and they have an even tougher task ahead to select the winners of each category. We eagerly anticipate the announcement of those winners on November 3rd.”
The NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards recognise excellence in newspaper journalism across 25 categories, including crime, features, sports, showbiz, news analysis and more. The entries are judged by a panel of respected journalists, chaired by Professor John Horgan, Emeritus Professor of Journalism at Dublin City University and former Press Ombudsman.
This year the NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards are sponsored by National Lottery. The awards ceremony will be hosted by former newspaper editor and regular columnist, Matt Cooper.
