Commenting on the awards shortlist, Tim Vaughan, Chairman of the Judging Panel, said: “It’s no secret that journalism is under siege but you wouldn’t know it from this year’s entries. They were simply outstanding across the board, speaking truth to power and revealing what otherwise would have stayed hidden, as well as informing and entertaining with insight and brilliance.”
The judging process involves two stages. First, the hundreds of entries are carefully read by category sub-panels, made up of journalists and editors. Each sub-panel is chaired by a member of the independent judging panel to ensure any potential conflict of interest is avoided. The best of these entries are chosen for the shortlists in each category.
The overall winners are chosen by the independent judging panel, presided over by Chairman of the judging panel, Tim Vaughan.
