Message from Tánaiste Micheál Martin in support of World News Day ‘Choose Truth’ campaign

“Public interest, fact-based journalism has never been more important in a world that is, in many places, in an increasingly perilous state.
Democratic nations face unprecedented challenges from hybrid attacks where misinformation is weaponised to divide and destabilise.
When there are so many competing voices and sources of information; when there are algorithmic echo chambers; when bad actors go out to sow hate, the value of professional and trusted journalism only increases.
So, I full endorse the message of ‘Choose Truth’ on World News Day. Support your favourite trusted newspaper, news site or station. It is time to double down on facts.”

WORLD NEWS DAY is a global initiative to draw public attention to the role that journalists play in providing trustworthy news and information that serves citizens and democracy. This week, more than 100 countries, hundreds of news organisations, media associations, and individuals have this week joined forces to highlight the importance of fact-based journalism.
