June 13th Printing Press Visit – May 22nd 2013

Stop the presses… no, wait, let the presses roll! POP is back and for our next event we’ll take you to see some truly awe-inspiring printing presses at work.

We’ve arranged a tour of Independent Newspapers’s printing presses in Citywest on May 22nd.

During your tour you’ll see The Herald and Weekend magazine being printed and learn how the entire process of printing and sorting hundreds of thousands of newspapers happens.

Afterwards, we’ll take you for some lunch nearby. We’ll arrange all transport from the city centre and leave you back there at the end of the trip.

Where?

Meet the bus at either Sir John Rogerson’s Quay or City Hall.

When?

May 22nd, 11.30am – 3.30pm

Why?

Interest, education, a few hours off work and a free lunch.

March 12th POP Journalist Talk – March 21st 2013

On Thursday, March 21st we’ll give you the opportunity to meet three leading newspaper journalists and learn how the newspapers got the scoop on some of the biggest news stories of recent times.

We’ll meet upstairs in Solas on Wexford Street from 6.30pm where we’ll have plenty of drinks vouchers and food to go around.

Here’s the timetable for the event:

6.30pm – Grab a drink (on us) and a comfy chair.

7.30pm – Nicola Tallant, Investigations Editor of the Sunday World will take you behind the scenes of the Sunday World‘s coverage of the Michaela McAreavey case. The Sunday World brought readers within the scene of the murder and even interviewed the chief suspect. You’ll learn about how the Sunday World embraced multi-media journalism in their coverage of this case in print and online.

8.00pm – Alana Fearon, journalist with the Irish Daily Mirror will discuss that newspaper’s reporting of the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe. Ever wanted to know how journalists get their information for big news stories and how they decide to cover them? This is your chance to find out.

8.30pm – Jennifer Bray of the Irish Daily Mail and Irish Mail on Sunday will talk about their coverage of the recent, tragic murder-suicide in Cork. Jennifer will give you an insight into how newspapers report on sensitive stories and explain why she believes that coverage is important.

You’ll have the opportunity the ask all of the journalists questions and it’s sure to be a really interesting event.
