The Green Press Partnership (GPP) was established in March 2010, comprising NewsBrands Ireland, Local Ireland, Magazines Ireland, NPA and the PPA with all associations contributing financially to the various environment initiatives previously paid for exclusively by NewsBrands Ireland.
The main aim of the programme is to act as a platform for the environment initiatives specific to the requirements of newsprint waste.
The Green Press document PRI (voluntary producer responsibility initiative for the press industry) was published in November. The document outlines a number of individual initiatives covering four areas – policy, communication, efficiency and research. Examples of initiatives contained within the programme include a carbon policy, green procurement policy, an ad space commitment and numerous others and these are designed to embrace existing initiatives such as the whole copy returns initiative and the environment standards for the press industry (ESPI).
