The NNI Journalism Awards 2013 will be presented at a gala lunch on November 7th at the Four Seasons Dublin.
Mick Hume, author and editor-at-large of the UK-based online magazine Spiked will be the guest speaker at the event. Broadcaster and journalist, Matt Cooper will act as master of ceremonies.

Mick Hume

Mick Hume is editor-at-large of the UK-based online magazine Spiked (www.spiked-online.com), and author of There Is No Such Thing As A Free Press – and we need one more than ever (2012), described by Daniel Finkelstein of The Times (London) as “a masterclass in the writing of polemic”.
Hume was the founding editor of LM magazine, which he originally launched in 1988 as Living Marxism, until it was forced to close in 2000 after being sued for libel. In 2001 he launched Spiked, the first UK-based web-only current affairs magazine, which he edited until 2007.
Hume was a columnist at The Times (London) for 10 years, and has written for many of Britain’s tabloid and broadsheet newspapers – especially in defence of press freedom. He also writes the “Kicking Against the Pricks” column for the biggest Manchester United fanzine, Red Issue. He lives in north-east London with his wife and two daughters.
Matt Cooper

Matt Cooper is a broadcaster, newspaper columnist and best selling author, and a regular chairman at business and sports events.
He presents and edits the daily news, current affairs and sports programme The Last Word on Today FM from Monday to Friday, 4.30pm to 7pm.
He has been the presenter of live GAA coverage on TV3 from 2008 and also hosted that station’s rugby world cup coverage in 2007 and champions league soccer coverage. He is also the host of the Guinness Area 22 rugby roadshow, which is broadcast on radio and television.
He writes leader page columns for the Irish edition of The Sunday Times and for the Friday edition of the Irish Examiner.
His first book “Who Really Runs Ireland” was published in 2009 and was a number one bestseller. His second book “How Ireland Really Went Bust” was published in 2011 and was the overall third highest selling Irish non-fiction book in that year.
He regularly acts as chairman or speaker at business conferences and as a master of ceremonies at awards events.
His regular clients include Diageo, KPMG, the Irish Times, ISME and the IAPF. He has also worked on behalf of Volvo, IBEC, various accountancy organisations and a variety of other blue chip clients.
